life lessons from Nikon

For years I have coveted everyone's Nikon cameras.
Ohhh they are so fancy, so pretty, so serious. I just wanted to wear that fancy Nikon strap with the name NIKON in bold yellow letters proclaiming to the world "I am a serious photographer".
When I was first venturing into photography past the point and shoot phase I got a great Fuji camera off ebay (about five years ago). The Fuji was a great camera I have taken some wonderful pictures with it, still coveting the holy grail of cameras...the Nikon.
Last February the birth of The Boy gave me just the excuse I was looking for, taking savings and pooling Christmas and Birthday monies with generous contributions from Husband I purchased my very own shinny new Nikon camera.
Flash forward to last week. Husband asks me if I can find some pictures of some Meeting House peeps. I take a peek into my photo files and come to the realization that,
a) I have not taken many (for me) pictures in the last 10 months and
b) the pictures I have taken (with a few exceptions) have been uninspired and not that great. The very next day I pack up my Nikon and my old Fuji (which is held together by rubber bands) and brought them into Henry's. I put both cameras on the counter and said I took good pictures with this camera (my Fuji) and I take very few crappy pictures with this one. He picks up both cameras, snaps a few pictures on each and says "yeah this Fuji is great they do not make them like this anymore, best sensors ever". So I exchange the pretty pretty Nikon for the latest Fuji (it pays to get these kind of things with specialty stores).
Fuji and I are happily reunited and I am humbled by the reminder that "all that is gold does not glitter". (life lesson from Nikon AND Tolkien) A lesson I will take with me into this Christmas season.

At first I read, "Life Lessons from Nixon" and I was riveted.

Even though it wasn't about Nixon at all, I agree, I am not a big fan of Nikon and I really love my Canon.
