Our beautiful new van was encased in ice yesteday.
It took about 10 liters of hot water to de-ice the windows, handles and doors.

The ice was so thick it broke our scrapper. After 30min of pounding and scrapping getting me nowhere I attacked it with hot water...it did the trick.

Ugh, I had that happen to me once when I was at work, I came out and had no idea how I was going to get into my car to get home. All of the teachers got together to chip away at each other's cars until we were all free. (We'd free one person's driver's side door, they'd turn the car on to warm it up and defrost and by the time we finished chipping away at everyone else's driver's side door, most of the cars had de-iced themselves).
